As an addiction professional for the State of New York, and adjunct psychology professor, Dave Roberts had a science-based and rational view of how the world operates. On March 1, 2003, Dave’s daughter Jeannine died of an aggressive form of cancer. Dave used his clinical expertise to understand and deal with his grief and loss. His life was focused solely on honoring the memory of his daughter but this perspective unexpectedly changed when he visited the home of Reverend Patty Furino. The Reverend is a private woman with a deep and intimate connection of the multidimensional Universe. Dave’s spiritually transformative experience allowed him to ultimately find peace with his daughter’s passing and the realization he was more than a “bereaved parent.”
Dave takes you along on his extraordinary journey of discovery, sharing details from divinely guided topics and marathon discussions he experienced with Pat. They provide a framework for how spiritual practices can be integrated with psychological interventions, guiding individuals to navigate through various life challenges.
When The Psychology Professor Met The Minister aspires to empower young and old alike, to uncover and understand their place in the universe during these uncertain and chaotic times in the world.

Comments From Professionals
“The meld between psychology and spirituality is portrayed eloquently in a ground-breaking depiction of transformational awareness. This beautiful and compelling story describes how a college professor’s life profoundly changed when he met an interfaith minister who received signs from the afterlife.”Rebecca Austill-Clausen MS,OTR/L,FAOTA, Award-Winning Author: Change Maker: How My Brother’s Death Woke Up My Life
“This book is a must-read for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. As a mother who lost her only son it took me many years to get to the place where I could understand that relationships can still be maintained even after death. This book explains how a man of science was able to open his mind to another way of thinking, after the loss of his daughter. Guided and assisted by an interfaith minister, Dave began his journey into his spiritual awakening. Dave and Patty share their interactions, experiences, and endearing friendship on this journey of faith. After reading this book I discovered that although we may have lost someone on Earth, love continues for all eternity.”Stacy Alamond
“ I believe that your book will inspire people to think more openly about how they grieve and help them understand that it’s not “cookie cutter” or that there is a right or wrong way to grieve. In all the years that I have been doing grief work, I have not found a resource that is so “real” and helpful at the same time.”Melissa Rogers, Melissa Rogers Consulting
Many of us who have lost a loved one yearn for, and even receive signs from our loved one. But sometimes we dismiss it as coincidence or our mind playing tricks on us, instead of acknowledging the beauty of the connection that remains. I myself have received signs, and yet tucked them away in a special compartment, spending most of my days ignoring the message. After reading this book, and interviewing Patty and Dave on my podcast, I feel so much more open to my spiritual afterlife connection to my loved ones – humans and pets – and now will treat the signs not as flukes, but as the powerful messages they really are.Heather Stang, MA,CIAYT, Author
Dave and Patty take you on a journey that gently unfolds with signs and messages that melt away grief and ease you into a greater connection to all.
Dave shares how Patty assisted him to know, beyond a doubt, that he still has a connection with his daughter who passed away at the age of 18. The bond that forms on every page between Dave and Patty, through his daughter, created this wonderful book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in expanding their spirituality or who has lost a loved one and would like to know they are still connected and communicate with one another.
My mom passed one month prior to reading this. This book provided soothing comfort for me. It strengthens the validation that my mom is still with me.
Thank you to Patty and Dave for bringing this book to the world to shine a light on how love continues!Emmy Vadnais,OTR/L, Author of Intuitive Development: How to Trust Your Inner Knowing for Guidance with Relationships, Health, and Spirituality
Comments From Young Adults
I have lost many people in my life, because of this book, I look at death as rebirth rather than an ending. It is more comforting to anticipate what lessons are left to be learned to continue my bonds with my deceased loved ones. I learned so much about myself. I was provided with balance, empowerment, and awareness of the world I am living in and the challenges I face on a daily basis.Alyson
A phenomenal story that teaches us how to expand our perspectives on grief, connection & self-transformation. They share their story in a selfless means – to simply allow others to benefit from their experiences. I guarantee you will not put it down.Kali Regan
